    Hi @lcm404

We do have the available template snippet variables for use here — https://yoast.com/help/list-available-snippet-variables-yoast-seo/

Regarding the GitHub issue you mentioned, that is still open, but it is related to parent product categories.

Could you confirm if you are using it for regular categories? Or are you going to be using it for pages?

If it’s for pages, you can use the %%parent_title%% variable. Otherwise, there was a feature request for a snippet variable for parent categories which was closed here.

Sorry for not being clear but I am trying to do display the parent product category (woocommerce) and not the default category.

I’m guessing %%parent_title%% only works on regular posts and not on product pages powered by WooCommerce?

Otherwise, there was a feature request for a snippet variable for parent categories which was closed here.

^ This (%%ct_product_cat%%) is exactly what I am looking for! This is an old issue…is this supposed to work? I just tried it on the 2020 Theme with all plugins disabled and it doesn’t appear to work either.

Ok, I was wrong about %%parent_title%% as it is working (must have been cached). However, it lists all of the categories. Is there a way to just to restrict this to only display the category one level above the sub-category that the tag is placed on? It would further need to be restricted to the primary category branch.

Is this possible (even if it required some custom work)?

    Hi,

We’ve added your forum topic to the GitHub issue here since it is still open. We would recommend that you subscribe to the GitHub issue for any updates and to check the changelog from time to time on newer releases as well.

As for this issue here, this was closed as it was likely that it would not get implemented upon review.
