Trying to add a new author. It’s being mapped from an existing WP user profile. I’m trying to save it but I cannot because I get the following error message:

Please complete the following required fields to save your changes:

    • Display name publicly as is required *

I can’t edit anything in that field and I’m stumped as to why.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I should mention this text appears underneath the field, even with all plugins turned off: This name is used in several default displays and some search engine integrations.

    Hi @databell96

    Thanks for using PublishPress Authors.

Can you see any option in that field?

    (@databell96)

No. I am not getting any drop down like that at all. I see a drop down on Mapped User but not on Display name publicly as. I can’t do anything there.

@databell96 Could you please right click > Inspect, and check if you have any error in console?

If not, try to temporarily deactivate all plugins except PublishPress Authors. Check if you still cannot see the dropdown.

    Thanks,

Console just shows typical errors but nothing related to this.

Deactivated plugins and even switched themes and still not able to select.

@databell96 Can you try check on your Users menu? Can you see the dropdown there?

    (@databell96)

Yes, I can change that dropdown but it still displays the users email instead of his name, but it means nothing on the Authors area. That dropdown still doesn’t work.

@databell96 My point is, if in the Users menu also facing the same issue, then this issue is not from our plugin and rather a global issue from your site.

    (@databell96)

    It’s not. Only Authors.

@databell96 Can you replicate this issue in other site?

    (@databell96)

    What other site?

    What matters is THIS site.

    @databell96

What we meant is, are you encountering the same issue on other sites? If the problem persists across different sites, it may indicate a bug within the plugin.

However, if the issue is isolated to a specific site, it could be related to your setup.

In such cases, troubleshooting directly on your site may be necessary to identify the root cause.

Unfortunately, sharing login details in this forum is prohibited. However if you are Pro user of our plugin, you can share login details to your site, and we can have investigation directly on your site.

This is the only place I have this plugin in use. So I wouldn’t know.

@databell96 Can you please try create new WordPress installation and see if you are able to see the issue there?

I did add it to another site and I did get the pulldown menu for selecting the display name. Just not on the site in question.

And once again, I deactivated all the other plugins and switched themes and no change.
