• In the Gutenberg image block, when you begin to select an image from the media library, you can only see the available images in the grid layout. Is there a way to see them in the list layout (or anything else that would allow me to see the metadata)? I know you can click on an image to see the metadata in a sidebar but that is no good to me. I am transferring hundreds of images from an old site and clicking through them all looking for a specific image is not practical.

Doing so would require overriding the media library script. That would not be optimal. IMO the search function is the only way to locate something in a large volume of images. Expanding the search function to include certain meta fields would be better than displaying meta data. Search already searches file, caption, and description. The search is for attachment post types related to the image, so “pre_get_posts” action can be used to alter search queries.

It’s possible one of the advanced search plugins might accommodate media library searches, but I could not say for sure.
