Display latest n posts, regardless of blog ID

I’ve seen something in the support forum that mentions sorting by date regardless of blog but I’m wishing to show only the most recent N number of posts of all blogs aggregated regardless of the blog id and with no pagination. I’ve got it close to working the way I want, but the pagination won’t turn off.
