Display image that links to categories rather than specific products

I know this plugin is now merged, but I don’t know where else to ask about this, so asking here.

What I want to do is display a grid of a a few product categories – so that when a visitor clicks an image, it goes to the catalogue page of the category to which that particular image belongs. Is there a way to do that?

I thought that would be the result using ‘WooCommerce Products Category’ block but it doesn’t do that – it goes to the Produce page for the specific product from that category.

I tried using the shortcode, but that does the same thing.
