Display hidden post via widget

I run a news and information service. I publish material under three broad headings, News, Events, Jobs. I only want News on the front page, so I use WP HIDE POST to make that happen. So far, so good.

Within the News content, there are three broad sub-headings, original news content, curated content (offering links to material on other sites), and Media Releases.

What I’m trying to achieve is to hide the curated content and Media Releases from the front page (works fine with WP HIDE POST) but also have that content displayed via one of the many widgets that do posts by category. I’ve tried a few, but WP HIDE POST seems to trump whatever widget I try.

Any suggestions?

I like WP HIDE POST, but I’m not married to it. I’d be happy to change that plugin if another would not override a category posting widget.

I’m not a developer, have a very basic understanding of php and can sometimes edit by trial and crash until I get it right, but rewriting code is not really an option for me.
