Display CPT in a grid format?

I made a plugin in order to create my custom post type, and its called ‘sermons’. I’ve looked all over, and while I know how to apply a special template (archive-sermons.php) to the CPT, I haven’t seen how to put it into a 3×3 grid.
Also, I intend to have more than nine posts of this type, so if I implement the 3×3, would the ‘sermons’ page continue making pages once more than nine sermons had been published? I am a novice at this, so use little words with me ??
