Display category descriptions instead of titles in sidebar

I am using the Weaver 2.0 theme and the AVH Extended Categories plugin and have been unable to get my category descriptions to display in my sidebar. Instead, category titles display. (I posted a question about this on the AVH forum on June 30, but have not received a response. Meanwhile, my site looks terrible. https://toolsforkitchens.com.)

If I look at the AVH Extended Categories plugin in WordPress>appearance>widgets>primary widget area, there is an option to “use description for title.” That box is selected, yet the description does not appear.

I’d like to see blenders, cookware, cutlery, food processors, juicers, and stand mixers appear under “tools and appliances” in my sidebar instead of what appears now. If I change “category title” to these words, then my site’s title tags have no SEO meaning.

How can I fix this so that category descriptions appear in my sidebar?

I am new to WordPress and would appreciate any advice!
