Display Album with NextGEN Gallery

Have installed NextGEN Gallery and it seems to be working relatively well. However, I want to have just one picture of my each gallery (album?) showing, so the user and click on it, taking him/her to the rest of the photos in the gallery, rather than having all the photos displayed on the original post. After reading docs of NextGEN Gallery, it suggested I put [album=1,extend] in the post. This indeed causes just one picture of the gallery to show, but when I click on this picture, it does not take me to where the other pictures are (in fact, it just reloads the existing post.)
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
