Display a counter for posts in sidebar

Just create a plugin – You just do a wp_query to count the number of posts. Then you display that result in a widget.

This requires programming and you did not indicate whether you want a programmed solution or are looking for a plugin.

I am not aware of a plug that can do this but you may want to google it if you havent already.
