I finally found a reference at the link below to how to find the post ID that used to show in the Manage panel; I personally think it’s a shame to get rid of this, especially for those of us who use WordPress for so-called “static” pages (CMS).

To find the post/page ID, hover over the post/page title and look at the URL in your browser.

Thanks to Sandbox Development for this tip!

  • Post ID’s are not that important, but do come into play for some folks.

Link/Post Category ID’s are, however, more important and there has also been a suggestion that you can obtain these by a mouseover.

To call this resolved is, in my opinion, a bit of a stretch.

What it really is, is a quick fix to an oversight.

The fact is, the codex offers a multitude of functions that make clear references to the ID numbers for category, link, or post, as one of the options available for that specific function. To remove the ID’s from view and require a mouseover is, at best, a quick fix to an otherwise fairly serious oversight.

It doesn’t take a lot of code to add an ID column in the Manage Categories page, or Manage Link Categories page.

A resolution to this is not a mouseover, but the ability to toggle ID visibility on or off.

    I completely agree Rongo!

I know they’re trying to simplify WordPress with this latest 2.5 update, but please do not penalize your power users with stuff like this! And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Please stop the DUMBING DOWN of WordPress, Automattic!

I’m using 2.7 and trying to find the ID number of a Page, and all I can see in the browser when I hover over the link is the name of the page but not its ID number. Has 2.7 changed that much from 2.5? And how do I find a Page ID# with 2.7?

When you hover over the link with name of page, you will see the ID number in your browser status bar at the bottom of the screen – e.g.
    https://yoursitename.com/wp-admin/page.php?action=edit&post=9384
The ID number in this case is 9384.

    Use this plugin:

In the meantime, I’d like to see the ID’s come back in 2.8. There is a ticket to that effect in the bugtracker.

Thank you Otto42 as usual ??
