• Hi.

I have a new site in development.

Should I make private or use ‘discourage search engines’ feature until it is completed.

Right now it has content related to barbers and hair, a totally different industry to my own, so search engines might start to rank for that content and not my actual content?

What is the best course of action here?

  • Personally, I got burned too many times by clicking the ‘Discourage” checkbox to On during development, and then either forgetting to check it Off after the site is released, or somehow accidentally having the site indexed.

Just put a password protect on the frontend – I use this one all the time, but I’m sure there are loads to choose from:

Thanks, it’s more about being indexd for the completely wrong information, lik the theme I have has info about men’s barbering, my industry completely different, if it is indexed it will rank for barber related stuff? Does a password stop bots from access?

    >if it is indexed it will rank for barber related stuff?

    Yes.

    Yes.
