Discourage search engines?

  • I am building a new wp site in a subdirectory of a live site. I just want to be sure about something. If I check “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” I am only discouraging them from indexing the subdirectory or will it discourage indexing on the entire site? Sorry if this is a newbie question, but I don’t want to make a dumb mistake as 100% of my income comes from the live site. Please clarify for me… Thanks!

    If you “check” that in the WP Admin wher WP is in its own directory, then it only discourages them from indexing WordPress.

    It discourages robots to index your entire site. But your site isnt your entire webhost..
    Basically, it will tell the bots not to index your WordPress application.

    Most engines will still index it. My site appears in google with the following text below it:
