    Dear Support Team,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the upcoming discontinuation of Facebook for WooCommerce support for WooCommerce 8.9.

As per your recent notification, it’s crucial to update WooCommerce to maintain compatibility and access the latest features. However, I would like to clarify the timeline for this update.

There is growing concern within our company about the potential loss of “Facebook control” if we do not update promptly.

I have reviewed the plugin page and am unable to find a clear roadmap or information regarding backward compatibility.

To ensure a smooth transition and minimize disruptions, I kindly request more transparency regarding the update timeline and potential impacts.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,

    M.K.

  • Hi M.K., @fearis,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. I’d love to help you.

To do that, can you share more details about what concerns you about updating WooCommerce or what you mean by the timeline for this update? Do you mean when we will remove support for Facebook for WooCommerce for merchants using WooCommerce 8.9? If so, we don’t have a defined date for this yet, but we’ll notify our customers in time so you can take preemptive measures.

You’ll still be able to use the plugin, though it’s not recommended as it may fail or not work properly. We highly recommend keeping everything updated to ensure everything works great and for better performance and security for your site. If you need help updating, kindly let us know.

Overall, for a smooth transition between updates, we recommend taking a backup before running any updates and running the updates on a controlled environment first, such as a Staging server. You can ask your hosting provider if they offer this feature, or you can use a plugin like WP Staging to set one up quickly. You can learn more about this here: https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-update-woocommerce/#testing-updates.

If it helps in any way, you can review all the changes for WooCommerce here and all the changes for the Facebook for WooCommerce plugin here.

I hope this helps so far!

    Thank you for quick updates.
I was expecting, that for such a crucial plugin as Facebook Plugin – which syncing all product with Facebook market – life cycle is crucial part of development process.
    Example life cycle: https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle

I have 2 notification on admin panel from you:

“Heads up! Facebook for WooCommerce will soon discontinue support for WooCommerce 8.9.3. Please update WooCommerce to take advantage of the latest updates and features.”

“Heads up! Facebook for WooCommerce will soon discontinue support for WooCommerce 8.9. Please update WooCommerce to take advantage of the latest updates and features.”

If I understood you correctly: If there is no life cycle, neither any plans for dropping 8.9 Woocommerce – which by the case was added as compatible to your plugin this year, being exactly on 2024-05-14 which is being more specific 106 days ago – why you showing notification, pardon, notifications like that ?

As what I’ve stated before, not all theme and plugins supporting WC9.0 and you, by your notification, making an desinformation regarding prioritisation of the website for people, which is not nice.

I hope that people who writing this plugins are aware that people are using plugins and themes in WP, and at least 1 theme and all activated plugins need to be compatible with chosen version of WC which client wants to update ??, if not, please let them know.

    Thank you ??

    Hi @fearis,

I understand about running multiple plugins and maybe themes that aren’t up to date with WooCommerce’s latest versions (or WordPress, or PHP, or other plugins). It can happen. This is why it’s important to find plugins and themes from reputable developers who are active and keep up with updates!

If you have one or more plugins that aren’t compatible with WooCommerce 9.0 and above, it’s advised to contact the plugin developers to urge them to update their plugins or consider alternatives. The idea is always moving forward to keep up with changes in technology and software development.

For this reason, we strongly encourage you to keep everything updated! Software is constantly evolving, and there are a lot of moving parts. The more parts (plugins) you have, the more difficult it is to make it all run smoothly like a well-oiled machine. Keeping everything up to date is part of ensuring it all works fine. To ensure updates go well, it’s best to test them first in a controlled environment, as mentioned before! Here‘s the link again, just in case!

A quick note: Please rest assured that you can continue using the current version of Facebook for WooCommerce (3.2.7, I assume?) with the current version of WooCommerce you have (8.9.3). As long as there aren’t any major changes with Facebook that would require updating, you should be fine.

    Cheers!
