My site was hosted elsewhere and I had my blog on wordpress.

I just moved my hosting for my website and was having trouble accessing old blogposts. It said that it could not connect to my website and suggested disconnecting and reconnecting JetPack.

I disconnected JetPack and the whole blog (and wordpress site) disappeared. I can see all my other wordpress sites but not this one. I can’t even see how to reconnect jetpack now as I can’t click the site at all.

Can anyone help me. I have years of blog posts on there. It was goodlife.sixoaks.co.uk Please help. Thank you

    Hi @danscrazycatlady

It appears there may be an issue with your hosting provider or DNS configuration which is causing your site to not load at all. Can you reach out to your host so they can look into this for you? Since this involves your hosting server, it’s not something we can directly assist with as we do not have access to your server.

Once you’re able to get your site back online, we’ll be happy to check your Jetpack connection for you.

    Hello @danscrazycatlady,

Do you have updates about that? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!

unfortunately I am still very confused.

why would the DNS make the blog disappear from my list of wordpress sites?

I contacted my previous hosting service, one.com but they said they had no access to if anymore and could not tell me where the files would be among the stuff I downloaded from them(had my webpages).

I will contact my new host, hostinger, but I don’t know what they can do without the actual files that have the post text.

I f I could at least access the post text I could start the painstaking task of re-creating it.

Hi @danscrazycatlady, may I know where you’re accessing the list of WordPress sites? Is it from WordPress.com?

On WordPress.com, the sidebar will display all the sites connected to Jetpack, so if the site is disconnected, it will be removed from the list.

The Jetpack connection allowed you to manage the site from WordPress.com, but all the content was still hosted at the hosting provider, so they are the ones to ask for backups of the site.

If the web host no longer has a copy of the content, you can try to salvage content that may have been archived on the Wayback Machine, https://web.archive.org/web/20230101000000*/https://www.goodlife.sixoaks.co.uk/

To prevent this situation in the future, you might want to consider having a site backup system such that even if you change host or something goes awry on the site, you’d still have copies of your site to restore to. There are plugins to help with that, such as Jetpack VaultPress Backup.
