I updated from 3.1.7 to 3.1.11 and this is what happened:

    1. The default server folder for my galleries was changed from wp-content/gallery/ to something called wp-content/uploads/sites/1/nggallery/
I’d like to keep my old structure. However, when I change it it keeps reverting to the new address.

    2. Several other changes I make in the “Other options” are kept changing back after I save the changes. For instance the default thumbnail dimensions are empty. When I set them to my favourite 150×150 something causes the boxes to empty again after a while. Likewise with the lightbox effect. It is defaulted to empty, and when I add Fancybox it somehow changes back to empty.

    3. On the website when I click an extended album, something clicks and I’m transported to the home page. In addition: Clicking on a picture in an inserted imagebrowser setup (I’m using shortcodes) results in the image showing full page instead of in a lightbox.

    4. The Set NextGEN featured image inside posts/pages is not showing any images in the galleries to pick from.

There are more, and I can’t remember exactly which settings I used before. Besides, no matter what changes I make now, nothing works. This was really bad.

By the way, I’m using the Classic editor of WordPress, in addition to WP 5.1.1

    Hi @sandalsand,

I am really sorry to hear of the multiple problems after NextGen Gallery update.
We have not been able to reproduce locally, but have had a number of issue reports and are looking into it as soon as possible. In the mean time, please try disabling, deleting, and reinstalling NextGEN Gallery. You will not lose any galleries or data, but it will refresh the plugin files and should hopefully correct your issue

    Please keep us updated,
    Mihai

Hi @sandalsand – Drew here from NextGEN / Imagely – could you please create a bug report at this link https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/, and put “FORUM USER” in the subject line? We’d like to take a closer look at the site and see what’s going on.

    Thank you,

    Drew

I should have done what Mihai suggested before I posted this complaint. I deactivated all plugins. I then reactivated NextGen Gallery and then the rest. That fixed the problems. I have not yet tested the legacy alternatives I have been using, but my worst worries have now been laid to rest.

Right now I see no need to submit the bug report as Drew suggests.

Thanks for the reply. However, I was worried and very surprised that this update would cause so much trouble. I have been using NGG for several years and I have never experienced this.

@sandalsand – thanks for letting us know. Please feel free to reach out to us if anything else comes up, we’d definitely want to take a look.

    Best,

    Drew

    Thanks Drew.

There is one more issue that came up, I realised. Quite often I insert a thumbnail (in shortcode) into a post and add NGG-fancybox as CSS class for the link. Now it seems to refuse to open that thumbnail in a fancybox. In fact it doesn’t open at all. What settings do I have to tune in order to make this work?

    Example post

    Hi @sandalsand

Would you be so kind as to let us know where we should test this behavior? (where should we click).

Perhaps the behavior it’s being handled by the theme itself. Have you tried to disable the theme and check again temporarily?

Scroll down the post (below the map) until you find the thumbnails. Click and see if they expand in a fancybox. They used to.

    Hi @sandalsand

    Thank you so much.
Indeed, that’s what I tried the first time, but I still think it’s some conflict.

    Let’s try the following:
1.- Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.
2.- Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.
3.- If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme, it could be a conflict with your current theme.

Please let us know how it goes.

    1, 2 and 3. I did NOT succeed.

Could it be something with the shortcode I’m using to insert these thumbnails?

    <a class="ngg-fancybox" href="https://norge.sandalsand.net/wp-content/gallery/oslo/2014-08_1569.jpg"><img class="alignleft" title="Oslo - Skulptur - Tigeren, Jernbanetorget" src="https://norge.sandalsand.net/wp-content/gallery/oslo/thumbs/thumbs_2014-08_1569.jpg" alt="Oslo - Skulptur - Tigeren, Jernbanetorget" width="150" height="150"></a><strong>The Tiger (Cat A)</strong>

(The example is from this post)

I fixed this. The clue was that my attempt to use a lightbox function (in this case Fancybox) stalled because my settings had been changed after the plugin update.

    I restored this:
In the the Other options settings, and Lightbox effects there is a question: What must the lightbox be applied to? I chose “…all images that link to image files” instead of only NGG images.

    That’s it.
