Disappearing Phone Number

    Weird problem. I posted a blog entry containing a phone number. The number shows up as still there when I edit the entry in worpress. But it doesn’t show up on the site. If I follow the number with a non-white-space character, however, the number does display.

    I thought it might be a problem with Skype, but the problem persists when I disable Skype.

    it could be being interpreted as code
    maybe enclose with <code>number</code>

    The problem seems only to occur on computers that have Skype installed. Maybe I messed up when i disabled Skype before.

    I suspect it’s a Skype problem, not a wordpress problem.

    It indeed seems to be a Skype problem. I made it go away on my computer by installing the most current version of Skype.

    Unfortunately, a great many of my blog readers use Skype and I suspect that most, like me, are using an old version.

    Thus I will continue to gimmick phone numbers in my posts so that Skype won’t recognize them as such.

    Thanks for solving the mystery. I worked around it by following the last digit with a character then changing the font color to white to hide it. If course this only works if your page background is white.

    Between this and their sneaky Browser Highlighter Firefox add-on, Skype is becoming a problem.

    another helpful workaround for the disappearing phone numbers is to add:

    <meta name="SKYPE_TOOLBAR"
content="SKYPE_TOOLBAR_PARSER_COMPATIBLE" />

    into the html / header.
