Hi, I am hoping someone can help me to debug a case of disappearing icons. I had my webhost (FastComet) configure W3TotalCache, ModPageSpeed and Cloudflare for my WP site and the speed is fantastic, but when I view the site using Firefox and Internet Explorer it seems like many of the icons are missing.

I’ve reported this to the hosting company and they say it’s a problem with my browser cache. So I’d like to see if I am the only one seeing this problem, or if it is a real issue that needs to be fixed at the host.

The site is Asian Travel Tips and the icons that disappear are the “home” icon and expander icon in the main navigation strip, the “search” icon in the header and the social sharing icons in the bottom of blog pages (e.g. https://www.travelnasia.com/thailand/apartment-at-karon-beach-phuket/).

If you are able to add a screenshot to your reply where the images are not displaying and tell me where you’re viewing it from (geo location), that would be helpful to get the hosting support to take it more seriously.

I think what’s causing the problem is ModPageSpeed as the missing images all have css.pagespeed.cs appended in their URL string. But I am reluctant to just turn it off.

    Thanks for your help. Tony

  • I see them all on first page load

    That said, a few thoughts:

You do not need to turn it off…if you make site changes you likely will want to flush/clear the cache of each in the proper order, which I am thinking is: first W3, then ModPageSpeed and then Cloudflare.

(Although I am not sure you want all 3, many do use the first and last together after making sure to follow both of their sets of documentation carefully).

Looks like you are also running a minify plugin in WordPress? (minify is what ModPageSpeed does, which also seems rather redundant).

Once that is done, make sure to also clear you local browser cache so your browser will not be confused as to where to retrieve resource from and to first go get them all.

Hi and thanks for looking at that for me.

I know how to clear the W3 cache, but I don’t know how to clear PageSpeed or Cloudflare’s caches short of disabling them and then re-enabling them and even then I’m not sure it clears them fully. Can you point me to any info about this?

I am not running a separate minify plugin. I am using the minify cache in W3. Are you seeing something beyond that? I think what you’re saying is not to bother with the minification in W3 as PageSpeed takes care of that?

I disabled minify in W3 and that seems to have fixed it. Thank you for your help!
