    Hello,

I recently changed the permalinks on my site from dopeoutdoors.com/%postname%/ to dopeoutdoors.com/%category%/%postname%/. I then set up redirects.

Now I want to go back to the old permalink structure.

-What would be the best way of doing this?

-Should I just disable the redirects I entered and then change the permalink structure to what it was before? Or do it the other way around, first change the permalink structure and then disable the redirections?

-Or do I have to manually enter new redirections again for all the posts in the dopeoutdoors.com/%category%/%postname%/ to dopeoutdoors.com/%postname%/ again?

    Your assistance greatly appreciated!

You will probably want to disable the redirects first otherwise you won’t be able to access the posts until the redirects are disabled. It’s up to you whether you want to redirect the old new post URLs.

    Thanks John,

Ok, so from what I understand, I should disable the redirects first, then change the permalinks?

And it remains unclear whether I should “redirect the redirects”? Isn’t disabling the redirects enough? So, what I want to avoid, if possible, is going through each post and creating a redirect from dopeoutdoors.com/%category%/%postname%/ to dopeoutdoors.com/%postname%/.

    Best,

Ultimately it doesn’t really matter and isn’t something to worry about. However, when you change the permalinks your posts will swap to the original URLs, and until you disable the redirects you will be redirecting the posts back to the old permalinks.

It’s up to you whether you want to redirect the category permalink URLs. If you think anyone may access them then yes, you will need to. If not, then no. It’s not really something I can answer.
