disabling comments on already-published pages

I’m using the twentyten template. I originally made it as a static site, (one column, no comments, no sidebar with links… just pages) and everything was great. Then I got hosting elsewhere, and exported/imported my blog/site. Now I can’t seem to get rid of the comments box at the bottom of each page. I’ve gone to settings-discussions and unlcicked the comments and pingback checkboxes, tried doing this for each page, refreshing, etc, but nothing is working.

Do I have to just delete these pages and make/publish them all over again to get rid of the darn comments boxes? This is driving me nuts.
