When i updated to newer Yoast it caused the WordPress site to not allow me access to the backend. Meaning I attempted to but it came up with an error. I had to disable the plugin for the site to work. Does anyone know how to fix this, is this an error with Yoast?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I am having the same issue. Front site works but not the backend. When I move the plugins’ folder ‘wordpress-seo’ outside “plugins” to deactivate it, the backend starts working again.

    Hi @jasonmagnuson

That sounds like a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
?2. Check for conflicts using this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts?
    3. Check for JavaScript errors with your console with this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-find-javascript-errors-with-your-browsers-console
    4. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 4.9? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue here: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/ for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium here: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/ and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

It sounds like you are having the same issues. We would ask that you please follow the steps above BUT create a new forum post for us to respond to. We say that as it will help us to better manage and provided personalized support for your specific issue.

There seems to be a conflict with WordPress 4.9 and Yoast, on one of my sites I uploaded a a back up of a WordPress 4.8.3 which fixed the issue, but then it attempted to auto update to 4.9 which crashed the site and I had to disable Yoast to get back into the site. I don’t know if there’s an issue that’s currently being looked at as this has happened to 5 of my sites.

Similar problem – I updated Yoast SEO and could get into the backend but visiting the site presented a blank white page. Disabled Yoast and back to normal. A side effect of this has been the ongoing problem that I have been trying to fix with Simple WP Member Login where the members kept getting kicked out and having to have their password reset all the time. Once I disabled Yoast that problem went away as well. I haven’t upgraded to WP 4.9 yet.

If the issue happens when Yoast is the only plugin active and your theme is 2016 we ask that you please create a new GitHub issue here: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/ for our developers. They can then review the report and respond back as needed. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well. If you are not sure how or what to report use this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/

In regards to Simple WP Member Login, we have had some issues related to it here but none describe your experience. That conflict check would be the best thing to perform to confirm where the issue lies.
