    Hi murphy9100,

You can have both plugins enabled, but The SEO Framework will disable most of its output when detecting other popular SEO plugins, to prevent data conflicts.

This hasn’t been tested in a while, but I think it should work. Nevertheless, it’s best to stick to one plugin as both plugins will do most, if not all, for your website’s SEO :). Ultimately, it’s up to you to try and see what works for you.

I hope this helps! Have a wonderful day ??

So are you saying that SEO Framework will disable it’s OWN output, or the output of Yoast?

Can SEO Framework import everything from Yoast so I can disable it?

    Hi Brent,

The SEO Framework will disable its own output, but the class detection isn’t consistent as Yoast has split up its classes to only be called when needed, this is often too late for The SEO Framework to properly detect as The SEO Framework tries to prevent duplicated meta tags as soon as possible.

Luckily, as it tries to prevent duplicated meta tags (by having a higher priority of output), it shouldn’t matter that much.

However, both The SEO Framework and Yoast are still growing rapidly in features and compatibility is becoming more and more vague and much harder to maintain; therefore, I do not recommend running them both side by side to prevent future or past incompatibilities.

They both manipulate the title and allow to output a sitemap, this could be a culprit.

You can import/export per-page and per-post settings through an awesome extension by Nathan Rice: SEO Data Migration Tutorial.
Global SEO Settings still need to be configured, this should be a one-time effort :). The SEO Framework handles the best practices by default.

WordPress SEO is an alias of Yoast. The SEO Framework uses the same data handling as Genesis.

I hope this helps! You too, have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the reply! I don’t intend to keep Yoast, honestly. Part of the reason I’m looking at the SEO Framework and a couple of others to fill in the gaps, is because I don’t like what Yoast has become. Powerful plugin, way too bloated and too many ads and popups, etc.

I happen to be a Genesis owner, so I’m a fan of it already. Just trying to figure out what I’m going to use on my production sites to replace Yoast. Some things are still great for me in Yoast like redirects and bulk tag editing. So I’m keeping an eye on things!

Thanks for the detailed reply! Hope I didn’t hijack the thread to much! Keep up the good work!

    Hi Brent,

No problem at all, your comment is very much related to this topic so it’s actually a very good thing :).

P.S. The SEO Framework also allows custom 301 redirects, but then in a per-page fashion. Bulk editing isn’t on the road-map yet.

Hi I have a wedding directory using a plugin that has its own categories and tags and listing meta description… How can I get your SEO plugin to work.

    https://www.5starweddingdirectory.com

I tried to auto populate from WordPress SEO to your SEO plugin.. but it did not pull the info in..

    Even manual does not work…

    Hi taiger,

The SEO Data Transporter plugin doesn’t cover transporting of data from categories and tags, these have to be transferred manually.

Regarding the custom SEO description not working for the categories and tags, I assume you have Object Caching enabled?
You’ll have to manually flush this cache. If you have Transient caching handled too by the caching plugin, you’ll have to flush that cache as well.

If flushing these caches does not yield expected results, please open a new support topic and I’ll be glad to help you out over there :).

Thanks and have a wonderful day! Good luck :).

Hi and thanks for your reply..
I panicked a bit and reverted back to wordpress seo.. but running both seo at the moment..

I did turn off the cache (Cloudflare and Rocket) manually added the meta info and saved it, but it did not accept it.. I have too many pages to do this manually.. so it may not be the ideal SEO plugin for this site… which is a shame because i have been reading a lot of good things about SEO Framework

I also notice how much faster my site loaded with SEO-F.

    Hi taiger,

The pages and posts should accept the transferred data through the plugin.
Categories and Tags, alas, aren’t supported for this kind of transfer.

I believe Categories and Tags do not outnumber the amount of pages, so it should be less of a chore.

If you wish to give it another go, and when you encounter issues, kindly open a new support ticket and I’ll be sure to get back to you (as this topic is unrelated).

    Have a great day :).
