Disable updates but show notifications?

    Hi- I would like to disable automatic updates as it causes problems with conflicting plugins, etc., but I need to see the little circle with number in it indicating how many updates are available and should be implemented.

    How do I set that up? I see disable or enable updates and email core updates, but I’m not sure how to disable but still get notifications. I had everything set to disable and when I disabled the plugin temporarily, I got a notification that a lot of things needed to be updated, but that was the first I knew of it. Easy Updates Manager was hiding the fact that there were updates waiting. Also, I’m confused about “automatic plugin updates” and “automatic theme updates.” As far as I know, no theme or plugin automatically updates itself. It just shows the little circle and you go into updates and click what you want to do, if update is your preference then click one or more and go.

    Let me know how to configure. I looked at the wiki – not much help for this issue. Thank you!

    You’ll want to turn automatic updates to off or select custom and fine-tune what updates.

    We have refactored logs and automatic updates in version 8.0.1. Give that one a try and see if that resolves your issue.

    Hmm. Here’s what I did.

    1. Enabled ALL updates
    2. Clicked CUSTOM
    3. Then everything under that DISABLE (except emails, logs & show version)

    Now I see the circle with a 5 in it next to Updates in the left menu.

    So, I guess that worked. Question is, will it show or email me when WordPress version needs to be updated. I’ll just have to periodically turn it on and off to see what happens.
