• Hello. I have a client who is currently hosting a paid video on her site. Visitors fill out a form, pay via PayPal and the page reloads with the video in it. If they reload the page or hit the back button, they get sent back to the payment form.

This was working well until the client noticed a replay button appear at the end of the video. Since we have this video behind a paywall, she only wants viewers to be able to play the video once. We don’t want them to stay on the page and be able to play the video over and over again without going back through the payment process. The video is currently hosted by Vimeo, and their support staff said this isn’t possible with their videos.

Are there any video player plugins or code that could disable playback or limit the video to play one time? I don’t know of any but wanted to check here first. The client is willing to host the video on her server if that’s needed. She’s also open to hiring a developer to create something to get this functionality, if it’s possible. Thanks!

Again, just solving a single issue.
    Not a fan of that.

I hear you with all the ideas. I could have fun brainstorming this.

Having anything online for sale, outside of tickets to an in-person event is new to the museum, so it’s brought up these questions of privacy and security. This conversation may spark ideas for new digital content. It’s just the one video for now, but the possibilities are endless.

Privacy and security …. From what perspective?

I agree with @corrinarusso in all aspects!

“if you need to protect your data that bad then it doesn’t belong on the internet.”

For example.. I hade a client that wanted to a very simple regarding css for a plugin I created. I could not inspect any element on his page (for debugging) so I did not know what was going on. With some simple steps I managed to inspect/debug. It’s easy when you know how. With that said… It’s always around stuff to get what you want/need.

Yes you can “disable” downloading of images to an a website, but with some few steps you can download them as well.

Furthermore… Internet is a public spot.

These are the reasons why I also agree on the subscription model. There’s another issue with having a time limit. What happens if the Internet does not work within the supposed time range? In a subscription model you could maybe offer more than just a video. You could a free coffee at next visit or similar (I don’t know.. It’s up to you).

    @djackson2

    I went through the site.
There’s a tonne of work to do here, lol.

ALL the forms need a complete re-vamp / different approach imo. The become a member form, Descendant Registry, support us, volunteer, sponsor, etc.
All these need to be managed Roles.

Anyway sorry – I had to walk away. The work involved in bringing this site up to speed is significant. ??

    Good luck!

Thanks for taking a look at the site. I understand your comments completely. In this case, privacy and security is about protecting the assets of the museum and also that of visitors.

The organization just got a CRM subscription specific to non-profits, so all the online forms will be run through the CRM once it’s set up. The goal is a full site redesign when budget allows. Again, I appreciate the help and will bring up the different ideas presented in the thread to the organization.

I agree with your comments. If someone is determined enough to get a photo, image, etc., there are ways to do it.

I also agree this is a bigger question of how the website should function in a way that accomplishes business goals AND gives visitors a positive, memorable experience. The site was designed years ago by computer science students as part of a non-profit/volunteer match program. At the time, I don’t believe questions of business function and user experience were discussed. As I mentioned in a previous comment, fingers are crossed for the budget to do a redesign in the future.
