• Like the title says, i disabled the image compression on wordpress because i will do it myself. Currently playing around i’ve uploaded a big 3000×2400 ish picture at 1,3 MB.

When i look in the media library this picture is suddenly 3 MB big!!

Here comes the strange part: when i download again that picture from the library to my computer it shows again 1,3 MB in my finder!!

Could someone explain to me what kind of sorcery voodoo is going on in here?

    Thanks Tim

  • Hello, @staezione

The reason you are seeing a larger file size is that wordpress handles images differently.

When you upload an image to WordPress, it creates multiple versions of the image for different use cases, such as thumbnails, medium-sized images, and full-size images. The image you uploaded (3000×2400 pixels) is the original, high-resolution version.

Here’s what typically happens when you upload an image in WordPress:

    1. Original Image: The original image you uploaded is kept intact in its original size and quality. In your case, this is the 1.3 MB file.
    2. Thumbnail and Medium-sized Versions: WordPress generates smaller versions of the image for use in different parts of your website. These resized versions may be of lower quality and resolution, but they are useful to load faster and fit specific layout requiremen
