• Hello folks,

    thanks for your great, customisable theme.

    I received a nasty complaint from a (single!) user who gave me the “professional tip” (quote!) that I should change my site (hessburg.de) because people couldn’t read the text.

    You know how it is: You test the site with different browsers, OS, and devices. Can’t reproduce the error. Ask the user and he says he uses “Dark Reader” with Firefox.

    There is no dark mode on my site and I will not install another plugin for a dark mode.

    I have tried to use the following entry in my CSS:
    –dm-contrast: #222222 !important;
    Unfortunately, this does not work.

    Is there another way to avoid forced dark mode?

    Thanks in advance
    Greetings
    Michael

  • Hi there,

    I had to google it, but Dark Reader is a 3rd party browser extension that users have to choose to install and enable on their browser. Its purely optional and provides some options for the user to configure.

    I installed the extension and checked out your site, the issue is you have light colored background images on the body and content containers of your site. And those images do not get inverted whereas the text does.

    Simple fix would be to remove those images…..
    the only other alternative would be to set the Background Color of the body and containers to a dark color to fool the extension into thinking they are already dark… but if the images don’t load for some reason then you will have an unreadable site too.

    You could report the issue to the extension developer here:

    https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader/issues

    Or kindly reply to the uptight user that they can disable the Dark Reader extension when viewing your site.
