Will this disable Gutenberg for good? I have built an entire process around the delivery of a very easy to use project for clients, but it’s done in a way to prevent them from hacking up a website. Personally, I prefer the Classic (TinyMCE) Editor and lightweight shortcode approach. I developed a plugin to hide all UI elements that aren’t needed to edit contextual elements. The plugin uses CSS/JS hacks and we have created a clean admin menu, but there is a button that takes admins back to the full blown admin. It’s gone very well and required providing very little training to project admins. I’m hoping this plugin will allow WP updates to continue, but without the Gutenberg editor in place.

Currently Gutenberg only affects the “Edit Post” page for any relevant post types (e.g., posts, pages, et al); it does not affect anything else. So that’s what this plugin does: it stops Gutenberg from loading on the post types that you select. In doing that, the plugin effectively disables Gutenberg completely. It also provides options to hide the G7G menu link in the WP Menu. Let me know if I can provide any further infos, glad to help.

Awesome! I’m a Web Project Manager and conversing with my hosting partners to potentially install this as an MU plugin until they’re ready to release in general. I don’t personally see how Gutenberg fits with most workflows of WordPress.

Right there with you, not understanding how or why anyone thinks Gutenberg is necessary or even wanted by most WordPress users. WordPress is used on over 25% of all websites in the entire world, so obviously people were pretty happy without G7G.
