Probably a really stupid question, but here goes:

I followed these instructions after my first scan…
Editor can easily be disabled by placing the following code in theme’s functions.php file.
define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true);

Then, I got to thinking, what do I do if I ever want to be able to get to this area again?? I have no clue how. I can’t get to that area at all. Probably a rookie error.

So you can just FTP into your hosting server then download and edit the functions.php, then you can just remove that added code line and replace the functions.php on the site.

Hi,
If you disable the WP file editor then it’s gone for as long as you have that code in functions.php. General rule is not to use that file editor, but modify files via FTP. Any clearer now? ??

Thanks for the quick response, but in case you couldn’t tell, I’m not a coder. I don’t know how to access FTP. I think I’m in big trouble now. ??

It is not as hard as it seems.

I still use FileZilla and it works very well and is easy to use.

I would keep using a file editor, loads of great free options to pick from. Then find the FTP client which works best for you.

Have a look at WinSCP if FileZilla doesn’t suit you.
