• Hello there, I’m hoping someone can help me out.

We have a client who is a photographer and as such has landscape, portrait and panorama photographs in the galleries.

I was wondering if there was a way to put the photos in the gallery with no or minimal cropping of images. This is because currently panorama images are being cropped to the sides, etc.

    Thanks!
    Erin

  • Go to Gallery -> Options -> Thumbnails and ensure “Set fix dimension’ is unticked. You will then get portrait and landscape thumbnails.

You may find having both portrait and landscape thumbnails looks a bit odd but that can be fixed by using CSS to put a uniform sized border around the thumbnails. Your eye then ‘see’s the uniform border not the mixed thumbnail shapes.

To have an existing gallery’s thumbnails change from cropped to the new uncropped settings I had to install the Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and run it.

@myvancity This topic is 9 months old, but for anyone who reads today it must be said that cropping can be easily avoided in Gallery settings > basic thumbnails > thumbnail crop > NO
A regenerate-thumbnails plugin can be useful in case of issues but changing settings above should be enough, and the change is immediately visible by refreshing the page. For me it has always worked, so in your case may be a conflict with another plugin.
