Disable comments per post when using shortcode

Hi, first of all thanks for the great plugin.

I have implemented the plugin by inserting the PHP shortcode into a theme file for my posts only. But I see that disabling the comments on a post via the post editor page does not work.

How can I get this functionality of the plugin to work using the shortcode? Some sort of IF function I assume, but I cannot figure it out.
