Disable code editor auto-format?

When I’m using the code editor for a page, I often start writing something, then have to go to another screen to copy a bit of text or something. The moment I click out of the box, if there is any unfinished code, or quotes that are missing the closing, or whatever, the editor just takes a big steaming dump all over whatever is there, sometimes entirely removing bits (that I don’t even notice, because I’m not looking at it when it happens).

Is there any way to entirely disable the code editor from messing with my code while I’m trying to do things?
