    Dear Loco’s,

I try to disable as many plugins if I do not need them.

If I setup translations with Loco – and disable the plugin, are the MO/PO Files still placed correctly that the plugins/themes find it, or do I need to enable Loco that content gets actually translated? Or is Loco just for the editing, the actual translation during delivery is handled by WP core?

    Regards,
    Andy

If your MO files are saved in a standard WordPress location then Loco Translate is not needed just to load and display translations.

However, if you are saving MO files in Loco’s custom location then the plugin is required at runtime to point WordPress at the non-standard path.

    More about locations here: https://localise.biz/wordpress/plugin/manual/msginit#locations

    Which location are you using?

Very good question – where do I see the location setting?

The file path shows you are using the global languages directory. This is the location where WordPress installs language packs from translate.www.remarpro.com.

You do not need Loco Translate to load files from this location, but be warned that auto-updates will modify or remove these files. If they are your own custom files, you should disable auto-updates or use a safe location instead.

For WooCommerce I recommend using WooCommerce’s own safe location for saving custom files. The custom path for this is wp-content/languages/woocommerce.

To save files in that location you must add it to your bundle configuration. You can install this config via the Setup tab and clicking “Check config repository”.

    Hello Tim,

    I hope it’s ok that I add a follow-up question to lorddandy1984’s thread.

Does Loco Translate add any load at all to either the front- og backend of WordPress when active, but not being used to do translations with?

I am also an optimization freak, and I also disable plugins as often as I can. But will disabling Loco Translate actually make any difference compared to having it enabled and idle?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tim

I would be interested in the answer to this question about impact on front-end.

    thanks

    Hello Tim
How can I disable email notification emails.
It is disturbing 20 plugins and a lot of email notifications.

    Best regards
