• Step 4 says to upload the files to my server. Step 5 says “Run the installation file. Relative to where you uploaded the files, ita€?ll be in wp-admin/install.php.”
I don’t understand the reference to a wp-admin directory. Do I need to create that directory and put install.php there? In other forum posts, I’m seeing references to a directory structure that didn’t exist on the zip file I downloaded and that doesn’t exist on my server following the upload. There are no folders, just files. So when I point my browser to https://ems.org/word_press/install.php, it tells me wp-config.php is missing. But it isn’t missing — it’s right there in word_press. Presumably install.php can’t find it because it’s not in the right place on the file tree — it needs to be in a subdirectory.
So how do I set up the directory structure within my word_press directory?

  • In the download, open the folder called ‘wordpress’
In that should be about 4 folders and a list of files.
Upload everything there just as it is.

It should look like the main window here:

Are youusing WinZip? If so, then make sure you have the option checked to “Use Directory Structure”….
Sounds like what you are using isn’t respecting the directory structure defined by the zip file.

yep… WinZip was the problem. My IT guy had me uninstall WinZip since XP handles zip files natively — I didn’t know.
My installation is done, and it’s definitely the easiest script I’ve ever installed.
    Thanks.
