• In pre v3.9.1 I was able to drag a html link from a windows desktop folder directly to a wordpress post.

WP would accept the drag/drop link and post both the HTML and the link plain text description.

Post v-3.9 all I get is anon clickable URL with no description.

    Example:

Old version: <a href="somedomain.com/some_url.php">a link to the news</a>

    Newer versions: `somedomain.com/some_url.php’

I’ve tried dir to html stand alone programs but they don’t give me the output I need.

Now I have to take a daily list of 50+ links in a directory and copy/paste the URL description then use the WP editor function to “link” the html to it; all of which is labor/time intensive. Any thoughts? TIA

  • I believe there is a mistake there, I’m using version 3.9.1 and just copy a link from Word and paste in the content editor WordPress and WP formatted the straight-laced type link: <a href ="https://google.com"> google</a>.

You are using a text editor or the visual mode? In text mode does not actually copy the generated link correctly, but in visual mode worked for me here, see if this is not the problem you are facing.

Leo, I don’t have MS Word to test your option. I’ve tried “Open Office” and it doesn’t work from there. I’ve used both WP’s text and visual editors and Chrome, Firefox & IE browser to open WP, all with the same results.

I’ve been dragging & dropping “hot” links onto WP for years. This changed only with the 3.8.3 and later versions.

My hosting service won’t let me step down in versions.

I also used to be able to do D&D from the Windows desktop in addition D&D from directories directly onto WP.
