Directory Multisite with a dev copy in a subdomain – possible?

  • Hi,

    A client of mine is running WP Multisite in the directory format e.g. https://www.websitedomain.com, https://www.websitedomain.com/subsite1, https://www.websitedomain.com/subsite2 etc.

    They have asked if I could set up a dev site for them, and I was going to do this as a subdomain e.g. dev.websitedomain.com.

    Is this going to work? If I copy their main site to a subdomain, will I just get dev.websitedomain.com, dev.websitedomain.com/subsite1, dev.websitedomain.com/subsite2 or will it cause problems?

    I don’t want to do this if it has any chance of borking the like multisite set up as it is an online community with lots of users.
