Directory index is showing instead of site

    I just installed wordpress on my site, and the site seems to be showing only the directory index (the list of files on my server).

    I don’t know if it makes a difference, but there was an existing index.html on the site (informing viewers that it was under construction) and I simply deleted it. This is the first time I have installed wordpress and had this kind of problem, so I thought I might mention it.

    I find a lot of archived comments about inserting
    “DirectoryIndex index.php index.html” in the httpd.conf, which worked for most people

    In all honesty, this means absolutely nothing to me. I ran a search through the files to find these, but came up empty handed. If this is the solution, could some one please give step by step instructions on what to do.

    OK, I think this was my stupidity. I believe I deleted the index.php file from the server. When I uploaded it all went back to normal ??
