I host my blog as part of my portfolio site.
    [Example: abc.com/wordpress].

I also own a domain name which I would now like to use for this blog.
    [Example: xyz.com].

Is it possible to set xyz.com to point to abc.com/blog.

abc.com/blog has children associated with it
    [Example:abc.com/blog/2010/05/post]

So ideally it would be best that when people visit my blog they can also view the pages and not just be simply redirected [Example:xyz.com/blog/2010/05/post].

I’ve contacted my domain host and he has recommended that I contact WordPress to get the correct details for adding new DNS records.
Unfortunately I can’t find any details in this forum or in the Codex to set this.

    Any help or advice?

  • WordPress doesn’t have anything to do with DNS records. That’s a domain hosting issue.

Cheers esmi, good to know and thanks for the help.

So am I right in saying that the issue really lies with my site host [abc.com] and my domain host [xyz.com] and has very little to do with wordpress?

Yes – that’s correct. Once xyz.com is set up and pointing at abc.com/wordpress, you could then look at changing the url in WP.

Ah cheers. That’s great. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some advice from my site host.

    Thanks again for the help.
