    I just recently switched over from per-post emails to a daily digest. Not only does the email not send out every day (sends about 2-3 times a week), when it does send out it usually only includes the last post that was published.

    My company published 8-9 times a week, so having only 2-3 posts a week going out to our subscribers is unacceptable. Can anyone explain/help me with this issue?

  • @baustin213,

    I marked threads as resolved so I know that I’ve replied and I’m awaiting follow up and also because virtually nobody using these forums bothers to resolve something when it really is resolved.

    But that’s fine, it just makes my life support Subscribe2 that bit harder again and the harder this keeps getting the more likely I get to walk away from it all.

    I promise you I will mark it resolved as soon as I figure this out. It really sucks that people don’t do that for you when you help them out.

    FYI: Just did a test-run with Mandrill’s SMTP and it seemed to work. We’ll see how it actually works tomorrow when we send out our digest. Will check back just after 12:00pm (EST).

    Thanks all.

    @baustin213,

    You must be about the only person who bothers using it then! ??

    Have a check how many emails you would expect to send by looking in the drop down menu in the Subscribe2->Subscribers and adding the number of “Confirmed Subscribers” from the Public Subscribers tab to the number of “Registered Subscribers” in the Registered Users tab.

    Let’s hope Mandrill resolves this for you and confirms that there isn’t any issue in Subscribe2.

    So… it looks like emails got sent out, but we were only able to send about 200, since we need to build up our quota/reputation in Mandrill. The problem is, in order to send the volume of emails we need to per month, we’ll need to pay for their services.

    Is there any possible way we could find a solution to my initial problem (having multiple, identical emails sent to our subscribers via Subscribe2) without having to pay for an SMTP server to send out the emails? This didn’t seem to be a problem for us until about 2 weeks ago, so I’m wondering what changed.

    One other question: I’m always getting hit hard by bots on Subscribe2 (particularly from obviously fake addresses on yahoo.com). Is there any way to prevent this? Do other people have this issue? I’ve tried Bad Behavior, but that did nothing to stop this particular problem.

    Thanks @mattyrob.

    @baustin213,

    I suspect the ‘change’ about 2 weeks ago was your hoisting provider changing or implementing a new emailing limitation. That means you can’t use their service effectively so your only option is a SMTP relay.

    You could try am email queueing plugin but I suspect you will still need an offsite relay for this to work.

    Of course another option is to migrate your site to another provider that does support mailing to a greater extent than WPEngine.

    As for bot prevention I use a combination of Bad Behaviour and Stop Spammers. I have also personalised and customised my .htaccess to harden my site.

    But that still doesn’t explain why Subscribe2 would even be generating the duplicate emails. Regardless of their emailing limitations, WPEngine wouldn’t be creating the emails themselves, right?

    @baustin213,

    No. Wrong. If WPEngine are not supporting SMTP it can result is sporadic, failing emails and also duplicate emails. Subscribe2 adds the email to the server mail queue and the server can then send it normally or not send it at all or send it several times.

    If there was a glitch in Subscribe2 that diplocated the emails everyone would be seeing this happen.
