Difficult to find Custom Post Widget in plugins library

    This is just a note to tell you that finding this plugin (Custom Posts Widget) in the WordPress library is very difficult for me. I love this plugin but always have difficulty finding it. I’m not sure how it is classified, but I search under terms that I can think of such as “content block”, “custom post”, “custom content” but I can never seem to find it. I have only been able to find it by either searching on the author name, or the full name of the plugin “Custom Post Widget”.

    Also, it is a little non-intuitive because the admin bar menu is “Content Blocks” but the name of the plugin is “Custom Post Widget” — the two don’t match at all.

    Hi Norm,

    I called my plugin ‘Custom Post Widget’ because originally all I was trying to achieve was to display a custom post in a widget area.

    Later on I added the shortcut functionality to add these custom posts to posts and pages.

    You are absolutely right that the name Custom Post Widget is a bit confusing, but I don’t think it is possible to change this now.

    I have updated the readme.txt file and added the term ‘content block’ to the beginning of the text, but I am not sure if this will help much.

    I would appreciate it if anyone has tips for improving the visibility of my plugin in the plugin directory.

    I’m definitely not any type of expert on getting a plugin to show in the wp search results. I don’t really know what they look at for the returns as sometimes they just don’t make sense to me. I would think that adding more keywords such as “custom post, custom post widget, post widget, custom content, custom content block, content block” would help; at least that is similar to how I’ve seen other plugins do it.

    But then I’ve seen other plugins return at the top of the search and they didn’t have hardly any related keywords; so again, I don’t know what the criteria is that wp uses.

    Oh, I would add your first name to the author… I tried searching on that and couldn’t find anything.
