Different Number of Posts for Different Types of Archive Pages

This is a feature request.

I’d like to have a different number of posts for each type of archive page. For example, perhaps I’d like 5 posts on a home page and 10 on a category page and 50 on a tags page. WordPress would have a configuration option in the Read settings for each type of page.

Any chance of this? I suspect there’s a workaround for it, but I’d like to make it easier, since my knowledge of PHP is limited.
