Wonder if TranslatePress can assign different media files, or URLs, to different languages? For example, in Chinese version, I wish to put on Chinese version of a film; in English version, I’d like to put on the English version.

    Thanks!

It is possible to do this in your post editor using the shortcodes that come with TranslatePress

    https://translatepress.com/docs/translation-shortcode/

Basically you place both videos in your page but only one of them will be displayed depending on what language you are.

While this is not the most intuitive interface, we have plans for the future to be able to change images and media in general directly from the translation editor.

    Thank you Cristian!

I guess that, with this shortcode, I can “hide” posts/portfolio items/pages that I haven’t translated? So in another language i am supposed to show, I only show those translated contents?

    Am i right? Thanks again!

    Hi Wendy,

    > can “hide” posts/portfolio items/pages that I haven’t translated?
Not really, those pages still exist and will display the original language.

There will be in the future an addon where you can have pages in just 1 language. It’s high up on our todo list.

The shortcodes were created mostly for usage inside Email templates that can’t be translated from the front-end and for different images for different languages. But that’s about it.

Thank you Cristian! That will be great!

    Hi Cristian,

I am going to use Jetpack’s function to push new posts to subscribers’ emails, or use the RSS to email campaign in Mailchimp to send new posts to subscribers. Can you tell me how to use your shortcode in these two scenario? Should I insert the shotcode somewhere in the back end editor of each post, or somewhere else?

Also, is it possible to automatically share posts in different languages to their corresponding facebook/twitter accounts, using your shortcode or some other methods?

    Thanks!

    Hi Wendy,

Pushing posts to subscribers via jetpack or Mailchimp will only send the default language version. We currently don’t have a way for users to select their desired language/email and send them the translated content.

There is no way to use the shortcode in that matter.

However, if someone shares a post, it will share it in the language is currently on. So if you’re on the French version of post and click Share, it should share that translated post, not the original in English (provided your default is English and your second language is French).

    Hope this makes it clearer!
