Different invoice prefixes based on categories

Hello all,

I’m having trouble finding a solution to a seemingly simple issue.

I want to prefix my PayPal invoices based on categories. For example if I have membership and conference registration, I want the invoices for membership to start with m and registration invoices to start with r.

Is this easily accomplished via plugins or extensions? I’m open to free or paid solutions.
