  • WordPress can create multiple image sizes from your upload. This is done in the functions.php file by the function add_image_size. Depending on your themes and plugins there could be several versions of the same image. There are even plugins to resize existing images if you add new image sizes in your functions.php or plugin file. If the image has already been uploaded and stored in the media library before the changes where made that image would not be affect. Only images uploaded after the change would be affected.
