Different catagories in different spots on the sam

was wondering if there was a way to display different catagories in different spots on the same page. for example, i have the main secion of the page that i want to display the “personal log”, and “quotable quote”catagories. up top however i want to display the “site update” catagory. is there any way to do this? and also, is there anyway to display the catagory title without it being a link to that catagory? check out https://www.buddyshower.com to see what i’m talking about.
