• What are the differences in the methods of increasing memory for php and WordPress? And what is preferred?

I assume the best choice is increasing memory in php.ini, if that file is accessible. But after that: is increasing in .htaccess better than in wp-config.php? Or in wp-settings.php? Do server settings have any play in the matter?

  • wp-settings.php is better

May I ask, why is using the wp-settings.php better? I have used the wp-config.php method because I don’t have access to the php.ini file. Would that be why?

Is there any answer to this? I couldn’t find a memory limit in wp-settings.php. So I don’t know if I should add a line or go somewhere else. I have version 3.0.1 of wordPress.

I am unable to automatically install any upgrades because I get the “Fatal error: Allowed memory size of …” error. I have tried increasing memory limits all over the place … none work! Apparently you can make your own php.ini file and put it into any folder … but it still doesn’t work (for me).
