Hello, I have installed The Newsletter Plugin for a client of my company and set it up to use https://www.serversmtp.com as external SMTP service.

The client sends two messages every month to a list of contacts that were about 900 in June and now are about 1400.

I noticed that with the last two messages there is a difference between the number of the recipients selected from the plugin and the messages sent by the SMTP. The last NL shows 1396 messages sent by the plugin, but SMTP effectively sent just 1034 messages.

I thought there was a limit imposed by hosting provider (SiteGround), so I tried with a list of 500 recipients and then with a list of 150 recipents. Both messages result that just about 1/3 of recipents never arrived to the SMTP.

    What could be the issue?
Thanks in advance for your collaboration

If subscribers are added while the newsletter is sending, they will be added to the targeted recipients, this is way you see different number that the original estimated totals.

The last messages shows 1396 addresses to be sent to and only 1034 addresses arrived to the SMTP server. Those addresses were subscribers when I sent the message yet.

I sent various test emails to test addresses, there is always an address that does not receive the test.

The debug op is the following:
mail> SMTP Error: data not accepted.SMTP server error: DATA END command failed Detail: unable to exec qq (#4.3.0) — SMTP code: 451

I tell you more, I tried sending a true email message. The previous error repeats every 4 messages in debug.

Report that problem to you provier is an SMTP error not a PHP error. Probably they do not allow you to send to many messages in a short timeframe.

Search for “Detail: unable to exec qq (#4.3.0) — SMTP code: 451” in google there are many reporting this error of qmail.

I tried googling that error, but the results tell to changing configurations at server level, and I can’t.

In this case i mark the post as resolved. Thank you.

Just one question more: is there any suggested SMTP provider?

    Thank you again

No, there is not a suggested provider. What i mean… we use amazon ses but it totally lacks of a decent console. I’m even using mailgun since i luckly have a cheap plan and it works perfectly.

I can suggest t check the prices and the offers of sendgrid, mailgun, elaticemail, mailjet, sparkpost. We workrd with them all and they were all good.

    Stefano.
