Difference between “open” and “active”?

Dear support team,

during the programming of my Democracy Poll add-on, I came across the question what the real difference between “open” and “active” may be.

– A poll cannot be activated, when not open. Ok.
– An “open” poll and be ‘activated’ and ‘de-activated’. Fine.
– And when you close a poll, it will get de-activated. Fair enough.

But whether “active” or not, an “open” poll seems (for me) to behave the same. You can vote or remove your vote when enabled, and so on.

So: what kind of functionality is ‘activated’ by making the poll “active”?
