difference between Front Page template and home page in Pages panel

newbie here. i’m trying to wrap my head around how page templates work with the pages listed in the Pages panel under the Dashboard. what you see when you navigate to the site is the Front Page template but not the home page that is listed in the Pages panel and is set as the static home page in the Reading Settings in the Dashboard. How do I apply the template to the home page?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you are trying to create a template that will apply to your static homepage, correct?
The “Home” template will displays posts on the homepage, or on the Posts page if a static homepage is set.
In order to create a custom template that will be used on your static homepage you will want to create a separate page template and apply it to your homepage only. You can do this by navigating to Appearance > Site Editor > Browse All Templates > New > Page and selecting the page you want to apply this new template to. I recorded a video to illustrate the steps.
