Difference between "All" and "Published" posts

    Hi,

    I was wondering what the difference is between “All” and “Published” posts? I signed into my admin this morning and it showed “All 5600” and “Published 4450” and when I signed in 2 hours later is only showed “Published 4100″… but I didn’t change anything.

    I’ve tried adding up all of the published, draft and trashed items, but it isn’t even close.

    When I click on “All” the number of posts available for browsing does not change.

    I’m most concerned that over 300 posts seemed to spontaneously disappear from the Published list.

    Any advice or ideas on how to access these 1500 posts apparently floating in the ether?

    BTW, I know I don’t have 1500 “private” posts either… if they are not counted under published.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – repairing your database.
