• Had high hopes for this plugin based on the reviews – and to the extent to which is purportedly would suit my needs (setting thumbnails for old WP posts that did not currently have them).

I initially tried to use it with pixabay and configured it with my username and API code. Went to posts and selected several. Clicked on bulk actions dropdown and chose Magic Post Thumbnail and clicked apply. After it was finished nothing had changed.

I tried this repeatedly. When it continued to fail I thought perhaps the problem was with Pixabay, so I switched the plugin settings to fetch images from Flickr instead.

    Same exact problem.

The developer was incredibly fast to respond to my problems, so I am really hoping we will get it working (I will update my star rating at that point).

    Hello HowToBlog.

This is a weird and rude thing to put 1/5 review without ask any help on the forum before, as users do usually. And this is even more weird because you aren’t new into the WordPress community.

What are your server settings ? Have you tried Google Image (Scraping) method ? Because pixabay & flickr will provide nothing if you have complex pages titles. You can also try to cut the title into Magic Post Thumbnail settings in order to limit the number of words.
If you don’t give any information about your problem, I can’t help you to fix it. And if necessary make an update to help others users.

At last, if you lost your time by installing this plugin, don’t forget that this plugin is free and I earn absolutely nothing by developping and maintain it.
I use to help people when they post on the forum, and I update the plugin when it’s needed.

    Regards.

    Hi Mcurly,

I apologize if my review came off as rude to you. That wasn’t my intention. I was incredibly frustrated b/c I’d been trying numerous Featured Image related plugins all afternoon and none of them were working properly. I posted reviews for them, as well. And this isn’t an excuse, but I’m going through a lot right now – my fiance was diagnosed in September with End Stage Liver Disease and to say I’ve been stressed and scared out of my mind is beyond an understatement. We spent months in the hospital and much time at home where I could not work at all b/c I’m his sole caregiver. So now I’m scrambling to try to get some new sites up and tweak some old ones ASAP b/c we’ve got 5 figures worth of medical bills and my income plummeted when I wasn’t able to work. So I’m under a tremendous amount of pressure and I am just trying to get some of the functionality that I need working right away — I’m sorry that caused me to not first post in the forums asking for help. I didn’t have time. I apologize for that.

I do not believe I’d tried the google scraping method. Was there any documentation that I’d missed which said that pixabay and flickr don’t work on posts with long titles? Generally, my posts do have long titles.

I also am sorry for taking so long to get back to you – I didn’t see the email notification of the thread update until just now. Thank you for having responded as promptly as you did — many of the free plugins do not (another reason I didn’t bother initially – I have some support requests with other plugins that are over a year old with no reply), so it’s great to know you are really invested in your plugin and determined to ensure that it’s working best for all users. I applaud that, as we both know that creating and maintaining free plugins are a labor of love — and I truly am sorry that I reacted the way that I did.

I’m the thick of it w/a different project right now, but would be happy to work with you when time permits to figure out why the plugin isn’t working for me. And I will also update my review.

    Best,
    Emily

FYI – I just updated my review, and I tried to change the star rating to 3 stars while we work on getting the problem resolved, but the system keeps showing me the 1 star rating… I tried several times to change it, and checked the URL in multiple browsers. Usually one is able to update the star rating… I’ll post about it in the support forums and see if I can’t get that changed.

    Hello HowToBlog,

The point is that Flickr & Pixabay image bank are limited because their search engines are limited.
If you go on https://pixabay.com/ and search for example “horses”, it works. But if you try something a bit more complex : “horses in desert” it provide no results. And the problem is the same with the plugin : if you choose Pixabay image bank. The only way to make it works is to cut the Title (with “Part of the title” plugin option).
About Google Image (API), API key is really not easy to create.. that’s why I advise to choose the most simple image bank actually : Google Image (Scraping). Usually it’s the most simple way to make it works.

I hope it can help you. If the problem is deeper (like technical incompatibility with your hosting), I can check on your WordPress if you want.

    Regards.
